A workshop for Parents and Teenagers to gain knowledge, break down stigmas and open up conversations about mental health and different struggles that teens face.

Join us Saturday, October 29, at the Gilbert Campus for a Parent/Teen Mental Health Workshop from 10 am-12:30 pm. Through main sessions, breakouts, and guided discussion questions, we will facilitate conversations between parents and teens to identify warning signs and develop tools to strengthen mental health. Ideally, parents and teens can attend together, but the workshop will also benefit parents or teens attending alone. Registration is $5 per person.

If you’d like to cover more topics in breakouts, consider splitting up the breakout options between parents and teens and coming back together to share what you learned.

Breakout Options Include:

  • Thinking About What You Think About with Dr. Dayna Harris
  • Conflict ReVolution: Working Together to Win Together with Dr. Don and Renee Worcester
  • Fighting the New Drug with Robert and Chris Watson
  • Forgiveness and the Psychology of Peacemaking with Dr. Raymond Branton
  • Physical Health with Nurse Practitioner Cheryl Simmons

Speaker Bios

Dr. Raymond Branton - A licensed Psychologist in the state of Arizona who specializes in clinical, family, and forensic psychology. Dr. Branton completed his undergraduate work at Arizona State University and earned his Doctorate and Master’s degree in Clinical and Family Psychology from Azusa Pacific University. In 2005, Dr. Branton co-founded Professional Counseling Associates – a group practice committed to providing Christian integrated services to the community. Dr. Branton is also the founder and clinical director of Arizona Psychology Consultants, which specializes in clinical and forensic psychology services; He is also a co-founder and co-owner of Intensive Family Transformations, which specializes in providing therapeutic interventions and intensive reunification experiences for high-conflict, bifurcated family systems.

Dr. Branton is married to his beautiful wife, Amy, of almost 20 years, and together they are the proud parents of Isabella, Zachary, and Madeline, who are the joy of their lives. On the rare occasions, he practices what he preaches regarding self-care, one might find Dr. Branton fly-fishing in a mountain stream or working on his honorary (and more expensive) doctorate on the physics of how one properly strikes a golf ball.

Dr. Dayna Harris - A child psychologist passionate about helping children reach beyond preconceived limitations to achieve their goals. Children do not have the option of choosing their beginnings or the situations into which they are born. Dr. Harris strives to teach principles to help them learn to make Godly choices to write the ending of their stories according to God’s design. Dr. Harris teaches, lectures, and serves on numerous Christian-based platforms to share uplifting and life-changing messages on how the daily application of biblical principles can positively impact and influence our lives in all areas – especially in our relationships.

She is the author of, “And This is Why We Laugh.” This book provides biblical truths and practical applications on how to walk through life’s challenges and celebrate the victories we experience through the love of Jesus Christ. Dr. Harris lives in Gilbert, AZ, with her husband and two children.

Ben Malcolmson - Author and speaker who spent 14 years as right-hand man to Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll. The journey began after Ben played one storybook season as a walk-on wide receiver on the USC Trojans football team. Following his brief yet memorable football career, Ben worked alongside Coach Carroll at USC for three years before joining him in Seattle for the next 11 seasons.

In 2018, Ben released “Walk On,” an inspirational memoir published by Penguin Random House. Walk On is now being developed into a feature-length film by the same executive producer as “I Can Only Imagine.” As a highly sought-after speaker, Ben has shared his purpose-filled story with more than 200 groups, including churches, businesses, and academic institutions. Ben now works in the venture capital industry and lives in Phoenix. He and his lovely wife Brittney have one precious son named Bodie.

Cheryl Simmons, FNP-C - Cheryl was born and raised in Queen Creek, Arizona. She graduated from Arizona State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After practicing at Mayo Clinic Hospital for two years and working in Home Health, she went back to pursue a Masters of Science in Nursing, graduating in 2009.

Since 2009, Cheryl has been working in a family practice where her love for the endocrine system continued to grow. Her focus with Naturally Balanced is to look at the whole person by balancing hormones, adrenals, and thyroid while focusing on gut health, stress reduction, and a healthy lifestyle.

Lieutenant Chris and Pastor Robert Watson - Chris and Robert are brothers who grew up wanting to be a cop and not getting beat up by his older brother, respectively. And now Chris is a Lieutenant at the Scottsdale Police Department, and Robert is the Teaching Pastor at Sun Valley. Close enough. They have traveled to all 7 continents, and live happily next door to one another, except at Christmas time when it is the War of the Christmas Decorations. Robert is married to his lovely wife, Lindsay, and they have 3 kids, ranging from 14-11. Chris is married to Jihae, who helped put this workshop together, and together they have 7 kids ranging from 29-7.

As men in their 40s, as well as men who have counseled (and arrested) people who struggle with sexual sin and pornography, Chris and Robert will walk us through some of their testimonies and how you can have victory in your walk with Christ in the area of your sexual health in the age of technology.

Dr. Don and Renee Worcester - Don has his Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology and is the owner of True North Consulting. Renee has a background in business and ministry and is a Spiritual Coach with a heart for developing people and cultures. She is a retreat speaker and a mentor to men and women in leadership positions. Together, they have four adult children whom they like and love. They speak and do marriage retreats and marriage intensives together. They both have been on full-time staff with Young Life and served in various roles: area directors, training, speaking, development, assessments, Wyld Life, and Capernaum.

They find joy in helping people discover who they are and the great design God has put inside of them. They are also honest, keeping it real, and teach with transparency and vulnerability by inviting people into our lives as we work through the messiness of life. They are great at modeling, equipping, and creating tools and resources for life-giving relationships in any season. They love hiking in the Sonoran desert, A great cup of coffee, and the beach whenever possible. Don loves Spicy food and smoking a pipe or cigar, and Renee loves a good bakery and doing yoga. They both love to read and enjoy traveling.
